Tour of the 2010 Winter Olympic Venues

The final touches and testing on being done on the venues as Vancouver/Whistler  gets ready to host the 2010 Winter Games.  But you can get a sneak peak before the games by going on a guided tour with Enjoy Tour and Travel.

Imagine seeing some of the world’s biggest and best winter olympic venues and then watching the games in 2010 – you will forever remember where you stood when you saw the luge or experience the feeling of standing at the top of the ski hill jump with breathtaking views…when you see the athletes and they stand in the same spots.

The Whistler Olympic Park includes venues for the biathlon, ski jumping and cross country.  These massive jumps were built by a local company based in Burnaby.  Dynamic Structures specializes in building roller coasters for some of the biggest amusement parks in the world.  Along the side are about 1500 stairs that all have to be hand shoveled during the competition.  There will be 28 medal events taking place just at the Whistler Olympic Park.

One of the funnest parts of the entire tour was being able to check out the portable 10 metre air and laser rifle biathlon range  is set up for the cross country course.  We got to test our skills – 5 targets very far away, you lay down and shoot the rifle after a quick 2 minutes rundown by the guides.  I got all 5!!!

The entire facility also has its own waste and water treatment plant and made with the environment in mind.

The Whistler Sliding Centre includes venues for the luge, bobsled and skeleton sports and will have 8 Medal Events.  On the tour you will find out how many man hours go into maintaining this centre and keep the conditions just perfect.
